Pronoy Chopra’s journey in technology highlights his commitment to innovation and problem-solving. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the customer’s needs first, and believes that leadership is about empowering capable teams to excel without excessive oversight

Pronoy Chopra’s journey through the world of technology is nothing short of inspiring. A Senior Solutions Architect at AWS’s Startups division, Pronoy has worked at the intersection of embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and cloud architecture. His passion for technology began early, co-founding 9 Circuits in New Delhi, India, where he helped ignite a DIY electronics movement that encouraged innovation. His work with the founders of Arduino and community-driven initiatives like Community Hack New Delhi cemented his role as a thought leader in the tech community.

"I’ve always believed that technology should empower people," says Pronoy, reflecting on his early days of educating others about microcontroller programming and fostering a culture of innovation. His commitment to open-source development, which began with a project for Google Summer of Code, led him to work on systems that would define his future career.

Pronoy’s approach to solving complex problems is rooted in rigorous engineering principles and a deep understanding of the customer’s needs. “At AWS, we use a 'working backwards' methodology, which ensures we’re always focused on the problem at hand before designing a solution,” he explains. This methodology proved invaluable when he spearheaded the development of an internal Generative AI application that reached 40,000 users. His work with AI continues to push boundaries, as seen in his collaboration on the AWS SageMaker notebook for ESM3, a generative AI model that creates protein sequences.

For Pronoy, leadership isn’t about micromanagement but fostering an environment where teams thrive. “My goal was always to hire people who were capable of delivering on their own. Once you’ve done that, you can trust them and let them excel,” he says. This philosophy helped him grow the software team at Kernel from one to 15 engineers, transforming its technical infrastructure along the way.

The idea of innovation is central to Pronoy’s philosophy. He emphasizes solutions that are scalable and future-proof, drawing from his experience in diverse technologies ranging from IoT to AI. “Innovation should never just solve today’s problems. It should anticipate future needs and adapt as technology evolves,” he adds.

His involvement in neuroscience and AI gives him unique insights into future technological trends. “AI will transform multiple industries. We’re already seeing it with applications like text-to-video or protein folding. It’s not just about smart machines; it’s about integrating AI with real-world, complex challenges.”

Pronoy is equally committed to professional growth, holding certifications in AWS Solutions Architect and Six Sigma. “Continuous learning is key. Technology evolves, and staying ahead requires constant development,” he affirms, underscoring his dedication to both technical and personal growth.

Looking ahead, Pronoy remains optimistic about the potential of AI, machine learning, and neuroscience. He is determined to continue contributing to the technological landscape, creating solutions that are not only innovative but also practical and secure for society.
