The updated Hyundai Verna could get the Kia Seltos’ BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines
Hyundai seems to be on the offensive lately with back to back new launches in the past few months and it’s expected to continue the momentum with the Verna facelift, which could launch later this year. So if you’ve been deferring that purchase for the Hyundai Verna facelift, what are you signing up for? Here’s what to expect.
-
Just like its elder sibling Elantra, the Verna facelift is expected to get a significantly sharper design update if the Chinese-spec model is anything to go by.
-
The updated model features sizeable visual changes over the previous one with a new edgier front grille, bumper and more prominent headlamps.
-
The side profile remains similar to the existing model but could get a design for the alloy wheels.
-
The rear is where the changes are radical as the Verna facelift could get connected tail lamps like the China-spec model. It gets Hyundai badging in the center and a light strip connecting the side-swept tail lamps.
-
Below the number plate housing are faux dual exhaust outlets and a flared rear with vertical fin-like reflectors in the bumper.
-
On the inside, the Chinese-spec Hyundai Verna facelift isn’t too different from the current India-spec model. The black and beige interior outlay has been retained except for the new digital instrument cluster and probably a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit.
-
Hyundai will introduce the BlueLink connected technology on the Verna facelift like the Elantra and the Venue.
-
Other features like ventilated seats, wireless charging, electric sunroof, smart trunk, cruise control, six airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX are expected to be carried over.
-
As for the engines, the Hyundai Verna facelift will be powered by the Kia Seltos’ BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol (115PS/144Nm) and diesel (115PS/250Nm) engines. The existing set of engines - a 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel - will be done away with before BS6 norms come into play.
-
A 6-speed manual transmission will be standard while the petrol motor will be offered with a CVt and the diesel with a torque converter.
-
Prices of the Verna could spike up slightly from the existing Rs 8.18 lakh to Rs 14.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will renew its rivalry with the next-gen Honda City as well as the current Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris.
