The second-gen compact SUV will feature many differences from the current model
The Hyundai Creta is set to receive a generation change while the Chinese market has already received its own version of it. While it is badged as the ix25 in China, the Creta is offered in India and Brazil as well. Spy shots of the India-spec Creta suggest that it will share its overall design with the ix25 and this gives us a fair idea of what to expect.
Exterior
-
The new Creta looks a lot different from the outgoing model. The headlamps have been moved lower onto the front bumper while the LED DRL slits have been moved above it. Viewed from the front, it looks sportier than the current model.
-
In profile, the new-gen Creta is still a boxy shape but its dimensions have changed. It is longer and wider but shorter in height.
-
Here are the full specs:
Hyundai Creta (current) | Hyundai ix25 | |
Length | 4270mm | 4300mm |
Width | 1780mm | 1790mm |
Height | 1665mm | 1620mm |
Wheelbase | 2590mm | 2610mm |
-
The new Creta’s rear gets an overhaul too. It gets a more muscular appearance with prominent creases and indents. It also incorporates a light bar connecting the new tail lamps.
-
Nearly all of these design cues are expected to make their way to the India-spec model but we expect a few more rugged elements for more of an SUV appearance.
Interior
-
This is where the second-gen Hyundai Creta for India is expected to be different than the new ix25. The new model will get a new dashboard and console layout.
-
In China, it gets a large Tesla-like vertical 10.4-inch touchscreen interface for the infotainment system and climate controls. This system gets connected car features as well thanks to an embedded eSIM.
-
It gets a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster but it is still split into three sections - the speedometer on the left, tachometer on the right and a multi-information display in between.
-
However, another version of the ix25 was showcased ahead of its launch in China which featured a different dashboard layout. This one had the same instrument cluster and infotainment layout as the Kia Seltos which is more likely to be offered for the India-spec model.
-
The new-gen Creta in India will continue to be well-equipped with features like ventilated seats, wireless charging, upto 6 airbags and it's also likely to get a larger, panoramic sunroof.
Powertrain
-
The new-gen Creta in India will be powered by the same engine options as the Kia Seltos.
-
That includes the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines mated to a 6-speed manual. Both engines produce 115PS of power and while the petrol unit makes 144Nm of torque, the diesel motor produces 250Nm.
-
In the Seltos, the petrol engine gets the option of a CVT automatic while the diesel gets the choice of a 6-speed torque-convertor automatic.
-
Hyundai will also offer the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Seltos, probably as a sportier N-Line variant of the new-gen Creta. This engine produces 140PS and 242Nm while mated to a 6-speed manual with the choice of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Pricing
The current-gen Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the new model to have a similar starting price while the top-end variants might get pricier, nearing the Rs 17 lakh mark. The new Hyundai Creta is expected to be launched in India before April 2020 with its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
