Guntur: Dalits, who were allegedly harassed and attacked by the YSRCP activists for voting in favour of the TDP, submitted a memorandum to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission on Saturday.

The Dalits, who came from Atamkur village under Mcherla Assembly constituency, and also from Gurazala and Pedakurapadu Assembly constituencies in Guntur, complained to the Commission that they were attacked by the YSRCP activists.

The complaint, lodged with Commission Chairman Karem Sivaji, said in all, 127 Dalit families had become victims in the attack. The complaints included Macherla Madar, Manda Rambabu, Ponnuri Suvarna Rao, Manda Kanta Rao and Mariyadas.

They also complained to the Commission that the Dalits were driven out of Atmakur village. Similarly, nine SC, ST families were attacked by the YSRCP activists and forcibly driven out from Mannesultanpalem village under Pedakurapadu Assembly constituency.

They complained that 26 Dalit families in Pinnelli village under Machavaram mandal, four ST families in Mutalampadu village were driven out from their villages by the YSRCP leaders.

They said, three cases were registered, 38 cases are yet to be registered and added that 13 cases relating damage of properties are yet to be registered. They said they are feeling insecure and not in a position to go back to their villages, houses. They complained that they had left their lands uncultivated.

In a separate statement, former Minister Nakka Anand Babu said while TDP leaders were trying to take the victims back to their villages, the police arrested the TDP leaders. He said most of the victims are Dalits. Hence, they lodged complaint with the SC and ST Commission. He demanded that the government to pay compensation to the victims.
