Welfare of people is my responsibility: Vijay Kumar
- Son of late chief secretary B Danam, the TDP candidate says he has been standing by the people of the constituencies whether he won or lost
- He won as Congress candidate in 2009 but lost in next two elections after bifurcation of state as TDP candidate
Ongole: TDP candidate for Santhanuthalapadu Assembly constituency Bommaji Niranjan Vijay Kumar, popularly known as BN and BN Vijay Kumar, says though there were many candidates who contested or won in the Santhanuthalapadu constituency in the last 15 years, he is the only person who has taken responsibility for the local people and stood by them irrespective of victory or defeat, while all others had left them during troubles after their task is completed.
BN Vijay Kumar is the son of the late chief secretary of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh B Danam. The Dalit community in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana remembers the retired IAS officer as a messiah for his services in upbringing of the downtrodden people.
Vijay Kumar is an engineer by education and contested for the first time in Santhanuthalapadu on the Congress ticket and won as the MLA in his maiden attempt. He joined the TDP in 2014 and contested in the 2014 and 2019 elections from Santhanuthalapadu itself. He was defeated by Audumulapu Suresh of YSRCP with a margin of just 0.76 per cent in 2014, and by TJR Sudhakar Babu of YSRCP with a margin of 5.03 per cent in 2019.
In an interview with The Hans India, Vijay Kumar said that most of the development in the constituency was done during his tenure as the MLA between 2009 and 2014 or as the party in-charge of the ruling TDP between 2014 and 2019.
He said that he brought funds for laying roads, supply protected water, Chimakurthy bypass road, doubling of road from B Nidamanuru to Growth Centre at Gundlapalli, and laying cement roads in 70 per cent of the SC colonies.
He said that he had given a corruption-free service to the people for the last 15 years. The Chief Minister's Relief Fund, welfare schemes and social security pensions were given to eligible persons, irrespective of their political affiliations. He said that he brought the SC Sub-Plan funds for the roads and other infra works at Tellabadu, Doddavaram, Mangamuru, Uppugunduru, P Naidu Palem and others.
Vijay Kumar said that he is aware of the needs of the constituency. He said that there are works like check dams in the Gundlakamma project at Keerthipadu and Cheervanuppalapadu, a vertical reservoir at Devarampadu, repair and laying of new roads in some villages, etc., drinking water facility to Pernamitta are in his list of priorities.
“For every five years, the other party is changing its candidates, but I am here all the time for the people and addressing their concerns. Along with the six guarantees by the TDP, I will work on completing the projects and issues left unfinished earlier,” says B N Vijay Kumar.
