Visakhapatnam: Thousands of devotees assembled at the Beach Road to take a holy dip marking the culmination of Mahasivaratri celebrations in the city on Saturday. From children to elders, scores of devotees of all age groups headed to the sea to take a holy dip the following day of Mahasivaratri.

Mahasivaratri is one of the major festivals of Hindus observed to appease Lord Siva through a host of devotional activities and rituals, including observing a day-long fast, offering prayers and assorted aromatic liquids and flowers to Lord Siva and taking a ritual bath in the sea is one of the practices followed by many in the city. On Saturday, R K Beach witnessed a sea of devotees who offered prayers to Lord Siva. Parents were seen giving a bath to their little ones at the sea. Every year, the devotees in the city celebrate the festival with religious fervour and seek the blessings of the three-eyed Lord with the trident.
