Untimely rains damage horticulture crops worth 1.31 cr in Anantapur dist
Horticulture crops in an extent of 56 hectares were damaged due to unseasonal rains coupled with gales, thunders and lightning in the district on Friday night.
Anantapur: Horticulture crops in an extent of 56 hectares were damaged due to unseasonal rains coupled with gales, thunders and lightning in the district on Friday night. Mango, banana, pomegranate and tomato farmers suffered heavy losses due to crop damage and have appealed to the State government to pay compensation to their crop losses.
Horticulture Deputy Director Subbarayudu said to The Hans India' that he had sent a report on crop damage to the government and it is for the later to decide on the issue. As many as 58 farmers suffered mango, papaya, tomato and banana crops worth Rs.1.31 crores.
In another case, 32 farmers suffered banana crop damage in an extent of 1.5 hectares worth Rs.71 lakh and mango crop loss related to 12 farmers was estimated at Rs.21 lakh. Also 3 farmers suffered papaya crop loss worth Rs. 5 lakhs and pomegranate crop loss at Rs.24 lakhs in 48 hectares. Similarly tomato farmers suffered crop loss worth Rs.6 lakhs. Also vegetable farmers suffered crop loss worth Rs.1.5 lakhs in 2 hectares.
