Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for a horticulture hub in Rayalaseema on Friday, announcing that it would be developed at a cost of ₹1 lakh crore.
Addressing the gathering, she said measures were under way to ensure an adequate supply of urea and help transform the region into a prosperous area, or “Ratanala Seema”. She added that officials had been instructed to prevent urea being sold for more than ₹300 a bag.
Sitharaman said a biogas production system was being established under the Gobar-Dhan scheme. Solar pumps had also been provided through the Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM schemes, with arrangements to supply free electricity through them.
She highlighted the Kisan Insurance Scheme, which aims to protect farmers against crop losses, and said new schemes had been launched for fishermen and livestock farmers.
The minister also announced plans to appoint a veterinary doctor and deploy a mobile animal hospital in every district to improve animal healthcare.
