Tirupati: On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Kargil war, 'Vijay Diwas' celebrated nationwide and paid rich tributes to the martyrs, who died in war with Pakistan, here on Friday.

Marking the occasion, NCC Cadets led by Group Commander Col Ganga Sathish paid homage to the martyrs at a commemorative function held at Amar Jawan Memorial in Kapileswara Park in the city while a group BJP activists led by its State committee member G Gopinath also paid floral tributes remembering the sacrifices of the Jawans at the memorial.

Speaking on the occasion, Col Ganga Sathish recalled the bravery of our Jawans in the Kargil war in which 527 soldiers sacrificed their life for protection our borders. He said it was the sheer courage and fearlessness of our soldiers, who fought under hostile conditions in the Kargil area bordering Pakistan and brought victory to the country in the 60-day war with Pakistan.

NCC officers including Colonels Daliwal, Lakshminarayana and TK Paul, Lieutenant Colonel Sridharan, Major Mahuva Bhattacharya, Group Captain MK Singh, cadets and others participated.
