Sri Venkateswara University will be giving honorary doctorates to three eminent personalities at its convocation on June 23.
Tirupati : Sri Venkateswara University will be giving honorary doctorates to three eminent personalities at its convocation on June 23. Former DGP and philanthropist Dr Chandra Bhanu Satpathy of Odisha, noted lyricist and Avadhani Narala Rama Reddy of Proddatur and noted psychiatrist Dr Indla Rama Subba Reddy will receive the honoris causa at the convocation.
The Governor and Chancellor of the University Biswa Bhusan Harichandan will make his presence virtually and present degrees.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Prof K Raja Reddy said that the five years convocations which were pending since 2015 to 2019 (58th to 62nd convocations) will be held at a time. These convocations could not be held earlier due to various reasons including the Covid pandemic during the last two years.
He said that a total of 26,052 candidates will be receiving degrees for the period 2015-2019. Out of them, 15,018 have taken them in advance while 8,563 will take in absentia after the convocation. The remaining 2,471 candidates will take in-person at the convocation. Around 340 gold medals and 213 prizes will also be presented to the meritorious candidates pertaining to the five-year period. Rector Prof V Srikanth Reddy, Registrar Prof OMd Hussain and convocation media coordinator Prof Devaprasad Raju also spoke.
Meanwhile, Dr CB Satpathy who was chosen as a recipient of honoris causa has served in Uttar Pradesh cadre after joining the IPS in 1972. He retired in the rank of DGP in 2008 and received various awards including police medal gallantry, police medal for long and meritorious services and police medal for distinguished service.
He was known as a philanthropist and his contributions were immense during the last three decades. He is the guiding force of more than 200 charitable trusts spread across the globe. He is the patron of 'Swabhiman' a society in Bhubaneswar which aims at the noble cause of working towards establishing self-determination, equal opportunities and self-respect of the disabled people.
He received several honorary doctorates and awards at national and international levels. He was the first Indian citizen invited by the US House of Representatives through the House Chaplain to open the house of Representative session on June 24, 2015, as guest Chaplain with a prayer.
