Tirupati: The Garuda varadhi (flyover) works under smart city project here have been facing funds crunch. After a gap of two months due to nationwide lockdown to curb Covid-19, the officials are trying to resume the works, but they are facing financial problems.
The project cost was estimated at Rs 623 crore out of which TTD has to bear Rs around 400 crore ( 65%).
In first phase, the construction company had completed pillar construction on the centre of road from Padmavathi Puram to Nandi Circle.
The works executing agency, MCT is facing severe funds crunch for flyover construction. They requested the TTD to release funds to continue the work.
In the month of March, MCT officials held a meeting with TTD officials, but the meet did not yield any result. After lockdown , MCT officials wanted to resume the Garuda Varadhi works, but funds crunch remained a main hurdle.
MCT officials are waiting for TTD response on funds release and the matter was informed to the Minister for Municipal Administration Botcha Sathyanarayana.
In fact Rs 100 crores are needed for phase-1. A senior officer concerned told The Hans India that , if TTD release at least Rs 50 crore, we will complete a part of phase1 between Srinivasam to Nandi circle before the next February.
