Tirupati: BJP Cooperative Cell state convener Akula Satish urged Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to take steps for the reopening of SV Cooperative Sugar Factory at Gajulamandyam which was closed 5 years ago.

Speaking to media along with the party state secretaries G Bhanu Prakash Reddy and Kola Anand here on Thursday, Satish reminded that Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his padayatra in Chittoor district, had given assurance to reopen the Cooperative sugar factor for the benefit of the 11,000 farmers who are the shareholders.

In the absence of a cooperative sugar factory, the private factories are exploiting the farmers, he said, stressing on the reopening of sugar factory in the interests of farmers and also for the 600 employees working in the factory.

The BJP leader alleged that the TDP regime wanted to privatise the factory then. And the factory was closed in 2014.

He said the YSRCP government after it came to power, CM Jagan Mohan allocated Rs 100 crore for the sugar factory in last year budget and also appointed a committee to accelerate the reopening of the factory.

But the allocated amount remained unutilised, he said seeking CM to provide Rs 100 crore in the budget this year to lay the path for the reopening of the sugar factory. BJP secretaries Bhanu Prakash and Anand also spoke on the occasion.
