After completing Vasishtya Dhanwantari Maha Mantra parayanam for 62 days, the TTD has launched Sundarakanda parayanam for the well-being of people and for normalcy to return

Tirumala: After successfully completing Yoga Vasishtya Dhanwantari Maha Mantra parayanam for 62 days, TTD commenced Sundarakanda Patanam on the Naaa Neerajanam platform in Tirumala on Thursday.

Sundarakanda, is the fifth chapter (Kandam) of Srimad Ramayana written by Sage Valmiki. It is the age old belief among Hindus that the chanting of slokas of Sundarakanda will instil confidence among people to overcome difficulties and also ward off evils.

Reviving the age old tradition, TTD taken up group chanting of Sundarkanda parayana with the fond hope that the reciting of Sundara Kandam comprising of 68 Sargas (chapters) with about 2,900 slokas boost up the morale of people to overcome the present difficult period of dreaded Coronavirus.

The programme commenced with the introduction by scholars including KSS Avadhanadi, Janamaddi Ramakrishna Sastry and Dr A Vibheeshana Sharma about the significance of Sundarakanda Parayanam followed by the rendering of inspiring Sankeertanam rendered by TTD Asthana Vidwan Dr G Balakrishna Prasad.

This was followed by Sundarakanda Pathanam, beginning with the chanting of slokas from the first sarga and will be continued daily till the completion of all the slokas of Sundarakanda. Speaking on the occasion, TTD Trust Board Chairman Y V Subba Reddy, said, to ward off the ill effects of Covid-19 virus, from the world, TTD has taken up the recitation of Yoga Vasishtyam in the last two months. With the blessings of Lord Venkateswara, we have resumed darshan for the pilgrims from today onwards. So we have taken up "Sundarakanda Pathanam for normalcy to return soon'' he averred.

Vice-Chancellors of Vedic University Sannidhanam Sudarshana Sharma, of Rastriya Sanskrit Vidya Peetham Muralidhara Sharma, Annamacharya Project Director S Dakshinamurthy, Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad (HDPP) Secretary Rajagopalan and Additional EO AV Dharma Reddy were also present.
