Technology is a tool, not a strategy: Prof Amitava Roy

Vijayawada: The second day of the two-day national conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Commerce and Management’, organised by the Department of Commerce and Business Administration at Andhra Loyola College, concluded on a high note with insightful academic sessions and enthusiastic participation from scholars and students. Delivering the keynote session, Prof Amitava Roy, Associate Professor and Dean at St Xavier's University, stressed that technology should be viewed only as a tool and not as a strategy. “Technology is a tool, not a strategy — wisdom and innovation drive true progress,” he remarked.
He explained that data alone does not translate into wisdom and automation does not necessarily ensure meaningful advancement. He also spoke on entrepreneurship and the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem. The next session was delivered by Dr Chennappa, Associate Professor at Osmania University. He highlighted the importance of integrating traditional classroom teaching with online learning and global exposure. Addressing the impact of artificial intelligence, he noted a significant shift in management education from customer-centric models to an AI-driven global economy.
During the technical sessions, faculty members and students actively presented research papers. A key highlight was the presentation of an international research paper from the United States through virtual mode, showcasing the global outreach of the conference. The programme concluded with a valedictory session attended by Fr Dr S Melchior, Principal, and Fr Dr A Rex Angelo, Correspondent of Andhra Loyola College. Participation certificates were distributed to attendees,and Best Paper Presentation awards were presented, including to Lakshmi Padmaja of Stella College, along with other students.
