Vijayawada: Some low inflows are registered at upstream projects like Almatti, Narayanapur reservoirs on Saturday compared to flood levels during the past few days while the floodwater is steady in the downstream reservoirs in Jurala, Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar under the purview of AP and Telangana States.
As per the present trends, the flood level may not increase in the upstream projects immediately, the officials opined. But the present flood level in the downstream areas in the two Telugu States may continue for some more days.
According to officials, Almatti is receiving 4.56 lakh cusecs of inflows from upstream areas while the same is being discharged to Narayanapur. Nearly 106 tmcft water is available in the Almatti reservoir as against its full storage capacity of 129 tmcft.
Similarly, the Narayanapur reservoir has 4.74 lakh cusecs of inflows while 4.86 lakh cusecs are being discharged to Jurala. Nearly 27 tmcft water is available in Narayanpur as against its full storage capacity of 37 tmcft water.
The Jurala project has 6.70 lakh cusecs of inflows while the same is being discharged to downstream. The Srisailam is receiving 8.20 lakh cusecs of water while the same is being discharged to the downstream reservoir. Nearly 194 tmcft water is available in Srisailam reservoir as against its full storage capacity of 215 tmcft.
The Nagarjunasagar is receiving 7.20 lakh cusecs and the same is being discharged to Pulichintala Project. Sagar currently has 300 tmcft water as against its full storage capacity of 312 tmcft.
Subsequently, the Pulichintala project is receiving 7.20 lakh cusecs of water while the same is being discharged to Prakasam Barrage. Presently the flood situation is under control in the upstream and downstream areas of Prakasam Barrage. But some low-laying areas are submerged under floodwater and the same situation may continue for a couple of days, a senior official said.
