Srikakulam: Village Secretariats turned into relief camps for migrant workers

Srikakulam: Village Secretariats have been turned into relief camps for migrant workers in Srikakulam district.

In the wake of Covid-19 outbreak, the workers, who migrated to various States, have lost their livelihood at their work places. They are all now returning to their native district. So far, a total of 12,212 migrant workers have returned from Chennai, Chhattisgarh and other parts of the country. As many as 169 relief camps have been opened for the workers. As many as 28,000 more migrant workers are expected to come back from various parts of the country and other districts in the State to Srikakulam district.

The district administration has opened relief camps to keep the returnees in quarantine for 14 days. The administration has identified places for relief camps in all 38 mandals. Apart from them, as many as 835 village-level secretariats too have been turned into relief camps. Efforts on accommodate 10 to 15 migrant workers in each village secretariat.

"We are sending all returnees to the respective relief camps and they should stay for 14 days there," District Revenue Officer Balivada Dayanidhi told The Hans India. "We are collecting samples from all the migrant workers on their arrival here" District Surveillance Officer (DSO) for Covid-19, Dr Bagadi Jagannadha Rao said.
