Srikakulam: Superintendent of Police (SP) Amith Bardhar on Monday ordered departmental inquiry into the sale of spurious liquor in Sompeta mandal.

According to sources, two persons fell sick and another 23 persons were taken ill after consuming illicitly distilled liquor (IDL) at Sirimamidi village in Sompeta mandal on Sunday. The spurious liquor was manufactured in Odisha state border areas and transported into border mandals in Srikakulam district.

After consumption of the liquor, over 25 fell sick of them 23 persons were recovered. Two persons K Paparao and K Rudrayya were shifted to government RIMS hospital in Srikakulam on Sunday night and they were also recovered well by Monday evening.

"We have deployed special party police teams to prevent transportation of IDL from Odisha state into Andhra border areas," the SP said.
