Rs 1.8 cr sanctioned to prevent Errakaluva flooding
Rajamahendravaram: The efforts of Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh to find a permanent solution to the perennial flooding of the Errakaluva have succeeded. Due to the recurring floods each year, the canal banks suffer erosion, and crops are submerged, causing significant damage.
Responding to a request made by Minister Durgesh during a recent Cabinet meeting, the coalition government sanctioned Rs 1.8 crore under the Flood Damage Repair (FDR) scheme to strengthen the Errakaluva banks. These funds will be used for immediate repairs to the canal bunds.
Following the Minister’s instructions, officials have initiated steps to install two shutters on the Errakaluva at Singavaram in Nidadavolu mandal. A survey has already been conducted, and measurements have been collected. The Minister stated that the installation of these shutters will protect approximately 5,000 acres of land from inundation caused by heavy rains and floods.
He further said that by implementing breach-closing measures and installing gates at Singavaram and Kamsalipalem in Nidadavolu mandal, water will be prevented from entering agricultural fields. Additionally, all existing breaches (gaps) will be sealed, ensuring that the problem of flooding is permanently resolved before the next crop season.
