Kakinada: CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna said that the new sand policy has not provided any relief to workers. CPI activists and leaders along with building workers staged a dharna at Collectorate on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishna said that lakhs of construction workers have lost their livelihood in the last four months and still the government is confined to making statements only.

Construction workers have been migrating to other places for want of work. He demanded that the government pay ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of deceased construction workers.

For the building workers who have been out of employment for four months, the government should pay Rs 20,000 compensation. CPI leaders R Venkayya, T Madhu, N Kishore and others participated in the agitation.
