Tirupati: In an effort to spread awareness against plastic use in rural area, an awareness programme was held in Piler, 60 km from here on Friday. As part programme taken up under the Centre sponsored `National Green Corps (NGC), the school children who came in a rally formed a human chain in the circle near bus stand and leaflets explaining the ill-effects of plastic were distributed extensively in the town.
The children raised slogans against plastic usage and also on promoting alternate products like jute, cloth etc. by public for carrying goods. The participants also took vow to end the menace of plastic.
Local schools and various associations including the traders joined in the programme aimed to educate the public against usage of plastic. AP Green Corps divisional secretary G Rajendra who coordinated the event said that the level of awareness
against plastic is still low in rural areas allowing indiscriminate and unchecked use of plastic. Against the back drop, schools and various organisations along with NGC decided to take up series of programmes against plastic in Piler, a major panchayat and also other towns.
