Markapuram (Prakasam district): Minister for Education Audimulapu Suresh on Saturday warned the officials of action if they failed to complete works of Veligonda project on schedule. He directed them to complete the works on the first tunnel on a war-footing so that the water fordrinking, and irrigation can be provided by June-end.

The Minister and District Collector Pola Bhaskarawere inspecting the project works and conducting review meetings with the officials.The Minister told the officials that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would visit the project on February 20.

The Collector said the Chief Minister would inspect the works and hold a review meeting with the officials between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm during his visit to the project. He directed the officials to build a temporary helipad and organise a photo exhibition on the works being carried out at the project.

The Minister, while conducting a review meeting with the project officials at the Veligonda guest house in Dornala, said the government is keen to complete the project works on schedule. The officials failed to do works of the first and second tunnels as per the schedule and warned them that the government would not tolerate laxity. He directed the contractors to drill at least 12 meters of the tunnel every day. He also instructed the officials to provide houses, schools, anganwadi centres, drinking water and other facilities in rehabilitation colonies.

Joint Collector S Shanmohan, Markapur RDO M Seshireddy, Veligonda project Chief Engineer Jalandhar, Land Acquisition Special Collector Gangadhar Goud, R&B Superintending Engineer Maheswara Reddy, Divisional FO Khadar Basha and others were present.
