Onions sold at subsidised price in Chittoor

Chittoor: Farmers at Rythu Bazar here have taken initiative to sell onions at Rs 25 per kg to the customers on Sunday as per the instructions given by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. On Sunday, 6.tonnes of onions were sold and there has been huge demand for onions, says Akthar Sharif, Estate Officer at Rythu Bazar.
In view of the demand, above 10 tonnes of onions will be sold on Monday, he said. He said that earlier the prices of onions in open market have gone up abnormally and common people were unable to purchase the commodity. The Government has instructed to supply the onions through Chittoor Rythu Bazar at subsidised price until prices at open market come down" he added.
