Ongole: The SKOCH Foundation announced the prestigious 'Atmanirbhar Bharat 65th National SKOCH Award- 2020' to Prakasam district police. Group chairman Samir Kocchar conferred the award to district SP Siddharth Kaushal online on Saturday.

After the Disha incident in Telangana, the Andhra Pradesh government introduced Disha Act. To ensure safety and security of women in the district, superintendent of police Siddharth Kaushal introduced Abhay vehicles, in which women in distress can request the police to drop or escort them to home, from 9 pm to 5 am.

The SP asked the women to dial 100 if they felt suspicious over surroundings, sense danger and assured that the police team reaches them in no time to protect them and drop them home if necessary.

This innovative project is first-of-its-kind in India and later adopted by many districts in the state as well as other states. The six-member jury at the SKOCH Foundation selected the project 'Abhay' by Prakasam police amid high competition with hundreds of other projects from all over India for ensuring women's safety while instilling confidence in them.

DGP D Gautam Sawang appreciated the SP Siddarth Kaushal for winning the SKOCH Award, the only award from the department this time.
