Ongole : The continuation of the arrests of the people who gave information about possible crime will deteriorate the confidence in the police system in the State, said the Telugu Desam Party Ongole parliament constituency president Dr Nukasani Balaji.

Addressing a press meet at the district TDP office in Ongole on Friday, Balaji alleged that the Singarayakonda police arrested a man for expressing suspicion on the damage of hands of idols and a few media reporters for broadcasting the news.

He opined that it is the duty of the police to investigate the issues concerning the public and announce the truth, but they were arresting the people who were raising a question and passing on information to them.

He warned that if the government and police go on harassing the informers, then there comes the time for the public to fear about passing any information, even related to crimes, to the police in the future.

He demanded the government and police officials conduct an impartial investigation and revive the confidence in the police, by lifting off the untrue cases on the TDP workers and journalists.
