Kurnool: In a joint operation by the police personnel and excise and prohibition department, raids were conducted at Gaddi Mekala Palle village in Owk mandal on Monday. The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Special Enforcement Bureau, Gowthami Sali along with 30 more personnel have conducted cordon search operation in the village.

During the raids around 600 litres of spurious liquor and 8,000 litres of jaggery wash were destroyed. Besides, police seized 100 kg of jaggery kept for manufacturing the illicit liquor was also seized.

According to information, Gaddi Mekala Palle is noted for manufacturing of spurious liquor. Thousands of families are in the business since several years. The liquor manufactured at Gaddi Mekala Palle is being supplied to various places in AP and to the neighbouring states. To put a check on illegal sand mining and spurious liquor, the state government has constituted a special department- Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB).

The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gowthami Sali who was given the charge of SEB has appealed to the people to stay away from such anti-government activities. Instead of manufacturing spurious liquor, they can do own business. She appealed the people to keep informed the police about the manufacturing of spurious liquor and illegal sand mining. Similar raids were also conducted at other places across the district. During the raids huge quantity of spurious liquor was destroyed. On learning about the raids, the manufacturers have fled the scene.
