Kadapa: It appears state government is contemplating in resuming Brahmani steels owned by former Karnataka Rajya sabha member Gali Janardhan Reddy in Jammalamadugu mandal very soon. During his first public meeting addressed at Jammalamadugu mandal chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy without naming ,Brahmani steels' chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy indicated that he would laid foundation stone for Steel Plant in December month.
Deputy chief minister Amzadh Basha who visited the district three days ago also asserted the aim of chief minister in establishing the steel plant in the district. Meanwhile recent inspection by CH.Harikiran to Brahmani steel , sent detail report to the government about condition of sick unit proves that CM is keen on in that aspect.
It may be recalled that in view of providing employment to the rural youth, a decade ago during the regime of late chief minister Rjasekhar Reddy, Gali Janardhan Reddy has proposed to establish the Brahmani steel as joint venture of state government. The government has allocated 10,670 acres for construction of Steel plant at Chidimichinthala village and also another 4,000 acres for air port in Ambavaram, P.Bommepalle, Vemaguntapalle, Thugattupalle, villages in Jammalamadugu mandal.
With the proposal of investing Rs 4,500 crores and producing 2.5million tones in the first phase, Rjasekhar Reddy had laid foundation stone for Brahmani steel on 10th June 2007. The total project is estimated to invest Rs 20,000 crores with productive capacity of 10 million tones per year.
As per the guide lines the project was aimed to provide direct and indirect employment to 1.20lakh people in the district. The government has issued special GO for utilization of 2tmcf water from Mailavaram reservoir for steel plant.
Immediately after laying foundation stone, project works related to the construction of Blast Furnish, Center plant, Reservoir , Steel melting shop, Power plant, Sub station, town ship for the workers etc were taken up under war foot manner with the investment of Rs 1300 crores in the first phase.
However project was suddenly stopped following death of Rajasekhar Reddy , and arrest of Gali Janardhan Reddy who was the main partner of the unit. State government has taken back the lands and cancelled the water allocation to the plant during the regime of N.kirankumar Reddy by saying that the factory management failed complete the unit in schedule time as per the guidelines.
Meanwhile following the severe pressure mooted from the political parties and people's organizations the central government headed by Union Steel Minister Beerendra has constituted a five member committee for studying the feasibility over its establishment steel factory in 2016 year which is said to have expressed negative opinion in its confidential report, later state government during the regime of regime of N.Chandra Babu naidu laid foundation stone for steel plant in Jammala madugu as state governments venture but dropped in the middle after TDP lost power in 2019 elections.
