Infertility no longer a problem in modern age, says expert
In the modern technology, infertility is no longer a problem, says noted infertility specialist Dr Y Swapna while addressing the health education programme on ‘Assisted Reproductive Technology’ at Vasavya Nursing home here on Saturday with Dr G Samaram in the chair.
Vijayawada: In the modern technology, infertility is no longer a problem, says noted infertility specialist Dr Y Swapna while addressing the health education programme on 'Assisted Reproductive Technology' at Vasavya Nursing home here on Saturday with Dr G Samaram in the chair.
The couples should be aware of latest fertility technology if there are problems with either of them, she said. She stated there were several problems for infertility ranging from not release of ovum, the closed fallopian tubes, or even the problem in uterus in women and no sperm or poor sperm count in the semen of men.
In case of infertility, she said both wife and husband should undergo medical checkup to find out the fault. According to Dr Swapna, even if there is no sperm it could be increased with some medicine nowadays.
She said any deficiency in either wife or husband could be rectified these days with modern methods which include intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilisation, intra cytoplasmic sperm injection among others.
Dr Swapna said that at times there would be no apparent cause for infertility and in such cases assisted reproductive technology like IVF technique could be used. She said it was not true as some believe that there would be genetic problems to children born through assisted reproductive technology.
Moreover, she said embryologist and other specialists would thoroughly check for problems in the ovum and sperm before fertilisation and the zygote would be thoroughly checked once again for any shortcomings. Dr Maru proposed a vote of thanks.
