Indian Constitution is living document, says Andhra Pradesh Governor

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer on Sunday said the Indian Constitution is a living document that is constantly evolving and adapting to the changing needs of society.

Commemorating the 74th Constitution Day, which is observed every November 26, the Governor said that the Constitution is not just a legal document but a social and political document that reflects the changing aspirations and needs of the people. "The Constitution is the cornerstone of the nation as it lays the foundation of the governance of our nation and the founding fathers wanted the Constitution to be an adaptable document rather than a rigid framework for governance," Nazeer said in a press release issued by Raj Bhavan.

Paying floral tribute to B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and other founding fathers in the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan, the Governor said the day is celebrated not only to commemorate its adoption but also to promote Constitutional values among citizens. Nazeer, a former Supreme Court Judge, read out the Preamble of the Constitution, which was repeated by dignitaries who attended the programme.
