Heavy rains bring cheer to farmers in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Heavy rains lashed several mandals in the district on Sunday. After long duration of dry spell, heavy downpour gave a major relief to farmers to practice cultivation works. Heavy rainfall recorded in Srikakulam City and Rural, Narasannapeta, Kotabommali, Tekkali, Nandigama, Palasa, Mandasa, Meliaputti, Sompeta, Etcherla, Amudalavalasa and other mandals.

Continuous downpour recorded for two hours providing major relief for kharif crops cultivation works particularly for paddy crop. Due to continuous rain, major roads in the city inundated with rainwater causing inconvenience to pedestrians, commuters and bike riders in Srikakulam city.

Candidates who appeared for village secretariat exams faced tough time due to rains. The heavy rain gave major relief for paddy crop for both direct sowing and replantation, said Joint Director for Agriculture G Prasada Rao to The Hans India.
