Heavy rain pounds Srikakulam
Due to depression in Bay of Bengal, all parts across Srikakulam district receiving heavy rainfall for the last two days. Catchment areas of Vamsadhara, Nagavali and Bahuda rivers located in Odisha State also receiving heavy rainfall for the last two days.

As a result, these rivers are receiving heavy inflow of floodwaters. The reservoirs located across Vamsadhara river Gotta barrage, Narayanapuram anicut on Nagavali river,
Madduvalasa reservoir located at merging point of both Vegavathi and Suvarnamukhi rivers are also receiving heavy inflows. Catchment areas of Vamsadhara, Nagavali and Bahuda rivers in Odisha State at Kutragada, Gudari, Mohana and Gunupur received average rainfall of 24 mm and the average rainfall recorded at Gotta Barrage area was 64mm.
Across Srikakulam district, the total rainfall reported was 2,899 mm and average rainfall was recorded as 76.3 mm. In Kanchili, Jalumuru, Mandasa, Sompeta, Itchapuram, Kaviti, Nandigam mandals, the total rainfall in each mandal separately reported as more than 100 mm in one-day on Thursday.
Due to poor drainage in Srikakulam city, the rain water stagnated on roads and water ponds formed at APSRTC complex premises, NTR MHSchool Grounds, Potti Sriramulu Market Area, Rythu Bazaar, Government RIMS Hospital area, Indiranagar Colony and other locations.
The roof of a house collapsed on Thursday morning at Etcherla street in Srikakulam city and the house belonged to Pesala Suridamma. However, no casualty reported in the incident.
As waterlogged at RIMS hospital premises at General ward way, drug storage room, laboratory, surgical ward, new buildings area patients and their attendants are facing tough time to reach these areas.
Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Krishna Das directed the District Collector J Nivas to maintain strict vigil and alert all officials. The Collector also directed the irrigation, revenue, medical department officials to initiate steps to mitigate damage to property and lives and also asked the health officials to take all preventive steps to contain rain-borne diseases.
