Visakhapatnam: In a bid to help prevent cervical cancer, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC) adopted a remote village called Appapuram in Srikakulam district for complete screening of all women and vaccination of all girls against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

As part of the initiative taken by the hospital, some mothers in the village were screened for both cervical and breast cancers. Their daughters took the first and second doses of vaccine.

Director of HBCH&RC said the objective was to achieve 85 per cent of cervical cancer screening between the age group of 35-45 and 90 per cent of vaccination among adolescent girls and thereby bring down the growing number of cases of cervical cancer by 2030. The next screening is scheduled on November 29.
