Guntur: BJP Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao said that the farmers would get good profits if they undertake horticulture crops.

Addressing the officials of the horticulture department in Guntur city, he assured the officials that the Central government will extend full cooperation and assistance to the farmers for cultivating horticulture crops.

Later addressing the media, he said there was a need to bring quality tests to the chillies within the reach of farmers. He said that he will request the Centre to set up a chilli research centre here.

He stressed on the need to adopt modern technology in chilli cultivation to reduce cost of cultivation. He said training should be imparted to the chilli farmers in this regard.

At present, the farmers are cultivating chillies in 70,000 hectares in Guntur district and if they get better price, they will be happy, he said.

He further said that they will strengthen the farmers' organisations. He said that he had discussed with the horticulture department officials as to how the chilli farmers would get profits.

Chilli Exporters Association president Velagapudi Sambasiva Rao was also present.
