Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan pays rich tributes to police martyrs
Paying tributes to great souls and remembering the sacrifices of martyrs has been part of our Indian tradition and cultural gratitude, Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan has said.
Visakhapatnam: Paying tributes to great souls and remembering the sacrifices of martyrs has been part of our Indian tradition and cultural gratitude, Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan has said.
Expressing solidarity with the family members of the police martyrs, the Governor took part in a peace candle rally at RK Beach organised by the police department as a part of the on-going Police Commemoration Week on Sunday evening.
Terming the cops service as divine, the Governor said preserving law and order and protecting people's rights is a difficult task and the police have been rendering service relentlessly.
Further, the Governor said, "Violence should be prevented or curbed. I appreciate the heroic efforts of our Andhra Pradesh police in bringing harmony in the society.
Policing has been changing rapidly as the crime has been changing radically. The cops meet new challenges and evolve themselves to crack cases efficiently. Friendly policing, 'Mahila Mitra', She teams, cyber cells are the novel initiatives of the police to serve every section of the society."
The Governor said that he noticed change in the mindset of people towards police compared to earlier days. "I wish the police will continue their efforts to serve the people better. Once again, I pay my respects to the great souls who laid their lives while serving their motherland," the Governor added.
"It is very unfortunate to note that since 1969, many police personnel sacrificed their lives. Of which, 10 police were from Visakhapatnam," the Governor said.
The Ashoka Chakra, the Indian highest peacetime military decoration award for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from battlefield was awarded to Karanan Varaprasad of Visakhaptanam.
