Good samaritan works towards pollution-free society
Every day the environment is being polluted one way or the other by humans and pollution levels are growing higher and higher resulting in increase of temperature which is not a good sign for the coming generations.
Vijayawada: Every day the environment is being polluted one way or the other by humans and pollution levels are growing higher and higher resulting in increase of temperature which is not a good sign for the coming generations. With a strong desire to give a pollution free environment to the coming generations Ln Rami Reddy from a small village Kanchala of Nandigama Mandal, Krishna district took the initiative to transform the mandal to a pollution free place to live.
He conducted various programmes and stood tall as an inspiration to other villages to do something to their native. Reddy formed Pariyavarana Parirakshana Samithi and organised various social activities by educating the villagers, students and home makers to control pollution and live a better life.
Speaking to The Hans India, Rami Reddy told about his activities on how he took the initative to educate the people on controlling pollution and save the environment. He took up a robust step to stop usage of plastic in 2012 and dumping coconut (Bonda).
He organised rallies and conducted awareness programmes on how plastic carry bags are harmful to the environment and stray animals. Though there was a huge negative response from the business community but he never gave up his fight.
He said that with 10,000 people he participated in Rally for Rivers programme led by Jaggi Vasudhavan. The constituency MLA villagers, students and others participated in the rally and made a grand success. Another initiative was distribution of clay Ganesh idols in the festival season; about 5,000 idols were being distributed every year one day before the festival to control pollution. He further said 25,000 saplings were being distributed every year, to the villagers, college and school students in the Mandal and spread the word of environment safety.
He appealed to the government to include a topic on Safeguarding the Environment in the circular right from the primary school level to make the young brains think for the cause. He further said that government jobs should be offered to candidates who were involved in social activities like plantation and other works.
Reddy said that besides organising various programmes on environmental protection, he organises eye check up camps and surgeries for school children. He contributed Rs 25,000 for construction of two public toilets. He also initiated summer camp for children on yoga for last four years.
His motivation was his grandfather a social activist, to do something to the society for a better living. Reddy said he started his career as an LIC agent is now a development officer and chief life advisor. His Goal is to build a healthy environment to coming generations. His family wife and children are supportive in his activities. As part of the activities he donated a building for library with 1,600 books, said Rami Reddy.
