Guntur: Minister for Agriculture Marketing Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao on Thursday said the government would eliminate the middlemen and take steps to ensure that the farmer secures remunerative price for his produce.

He was addressing a meeting held under the aegis of Agriculture Marketing Department at MNR Conference Hall here on strengthening of e-NAM in Agriculture Market Yards to eliminate middlemen.

The workshop, he said, was intended to take suggestions and advices from the officials. He would submit a report to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the suggestions taken at the workshop.

The Chief Minister, he said, was determined to ensure that the farmers get remunerative price for their produce. The government was implementing e-NAM in 22 Agriculture Market Yards in the State. The facility would be extended to another 12 Market Yards very soon.

He said the farmers in the State can obtain the prices of turmeric, chilli and cotton in other States through e-NAM within minutes. He recalled that the government had set up price stabilisation fund of Rs.3,000 crore.

Special Secretary of Agriculture Y Madhusudana Reddy stressed the need to make changes in the marketing system. He said the government would create confidence among the farmers.

Agriculture Marketing commissioner P S Pradyumna directed the officials to implement the reforms in the Market Yards to ensure that the farmer get a better price for their produce. State Agriculture Mission Vice-President M V S Nagireddy, Agriculture Marketing Departing officials were present.
