Cyclone 'Arnab' in Bay of Bengal strengthens, West Bengal, Odisha, AP on alert

A low pressure area being developed over the Bay of Bengal is strengthening gradually in cyclone which is named as 'Arnab', meaning ocean/sea. There is a necessity for coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal to keep an eye out due to the effect that might be created by this cyclone. As per the forecasts, landfall of this system is expected to happen between 5PM of September 23rd and 5AM of September 24th.

Cyclone landfall between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam:

The Meteorological Department forecasted that this cyclone will be making its landfall in between Gopalpur of Orissa and Kalingapatnam of Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, it is expected that the intensity of this cyclone will become even stronger when it is making landfall. While the system is advancing towards the west-northwesterly direction over the Bay of Bengal and is set to strengthen into a severe cyclone, a strict warning has been issued not allowing fishermen to go to the sea until September 25.

Cyclone impacts on three states:

Andhra Pradesh: Very heavy rainfall along with gusty winds is expected in the coastal regions. Also, the sea conditions will turn rough.

Odisha: Coastal districts are on high alert; there is a possibility of heavy rains and strong winds.

West Bengal: Rains have already commenced in several districts of South Bengal. An 'Orange Alert' has been issued for East Medinipur, West Medinipur, and Jhargram districts for Thursday.

Kolkata is also likely to experience rain accompanied by gusty winds. North Bengal: Warnings have been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar over the coming days
