Tirupati: On the directions of DGP Gautam Sawang, the Urban police launched a special cybercrime detection unit at District Police Office (DPO) here.

The unit will be focusing on sensitising the students of various universities and engineering colleges about cyber fraud. Tirupati Urban SP KKN Anburajan had started a sensitisation campaign targeting students and youth as they are using mobile phones extensively. The SP sending women police teams to create awareness among girl students and women in colleges and colonies on cybercrimes. Speaking to The Hans India, the Urban SP stated majority cybercrimes are related to women, besides, cheating, fraud and stealing money through online transfers by knowing pin numbers of debit cards.

Anburajan made an appeal to girl students and women to lodge complaint to police through Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp numbers. He informed that cybercrime unit is investigating more than 56 cases. The SP gave call to public that any victim can approach police or cybercrime by dialling 112, 1181 and WhatsApp number 9121211100.
