Tirupati: Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been extending welfare schemes to all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed or political affiliations by considering poverty as the only criteria.
Addressing a meeting to distribute YSR Pension Kanuka held at SV University Auditorium here on Tuesday, Narayana Swamy said that the Chief Minister considers the manifesto as a sacred document and has been implementing it completely. The assurances made in the manifesto were the result of personal observations of the Chief Minister during his Padayatra and he was determined to end the people's woes.
Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said that the government has not deleted any beneficiaries of pensions anywhere in the State. But, the opposition parties have been making false propaganda against the government. Jagan Mohan Reddy government has spent Rs 3.11 lakh crore on welfare schemes and Rs 1.86 lakh crore of it was being distributed to the beneficiaries through the direct benefit transfer (DBT).
While the previous governments have given pensions to the ineligible persons, the present government has been implementing the pension scheme transparently. He recalled that in Tirupati constituency itself Rs 900 crore has been credited into the accounts of poor beneficiaries under various schemes. During the last elections, one crore people voted for Jagan Mohan Reddy whereas the Chief Minister has been providing welfare schemes to 2.10 crore people, he said.
Government whip Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy said that the Chief Minister has been increasing the pension amount by Rs 250 every year and from next year each beneficiary will get Rs 300 hike in their pensions. The total pension beneficiaries have gone up from 39 lakh to 68 lakh and the pension amount has increased by five times, he averred.
Collector K Venkataramana Reddy said that while there were 2,59,457 pensions in the district, 8070 beneficiaries were added now taking the total number has gone up to 2,67,527 and they will get Rs 74.08 lakh benefit.
Mayor Dr R Sirisha also spoke on the occasion. MP Dr M Gurumoorthy, MLAs K Adimulam, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupama Anjali, DRDA PD AD Jyothi, MEPMA PD Radhamma and others took part in the programme.
