CM Jagan directs officials to enumerate crop loss by Dec 15
Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday announced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the people who died due to the impact of Cyclone Nivar in Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore districts. Six persons had lost their lives in Chittoor district in the floods while two were dead in Kadapa district.
The CM, who went on an aerial survey to assess crop damage caused by the floods in the three districts, had a review meeting with the ministers and officials at Tirupati airport for taking up rehabilitation measures. He went through a photo exhibition on the flood devastation.
During the review, the CM announced the ex gratia to the six families in Chittoor district and two in Nellore district. Those in rehabilitation camps will get Rs 500 each as immediate relief. Jagan directed the officials to enumerate the crop loss before December 15 and submit a report. The farmers will get compensation before December 31.
Chittoor district collector Dr N Bharat Gupta, Kadapa collector C Hari Kiran and Nellore collector KVN Chakradhar Babu explained the flood situation in their districts. They said that paddy, tomato, groundnut and other horticulture crops were severely damaged.
Roads were worst hit and several bridges also damaged.
The CM directed the officials to restore all damaged bridges and irrigation projects like Annamaiah and Pincha immediately. He gave a green signal to complete Buggavanka project work. All the farmers who faced the brunt of floods should get relief. Seed distribution has to be taken up with 80 per cent subsidy. Repair works to the damaged roads and tanks have to be taken up immediately.
Chittoor collector explained to the CM that crops were damaged in 9,658 hectares and horticulture crops in 1,729.52 hectares. Thousands of cattle and poultry birds died. About 543.8 km R&B roads got damaged. Similarly, Kadapa collector said that out of 0.327 tmc ft storage capacity in the minor irrigation projects in the district, presently they reached their full reservoir level.
The Nellore collector disclosed that crop damage occurred in 33,269 hectares while horticulture crop loss was in 931.52 hectares. About 290 km or R&B roads got damaged partially in the district.
