Srikakulam: Minister for Roads and Buildings D Krishna Das and Minister for Endowments and in-charge Minister for Srikakulam district V Srinivas inaugurated Chief Minister Cup state level volleyball competitions here on Tuesday. The three day competitions will be concluded on 22 August. Before the launch, players from all 13 districts across the state have organised march past.

Speaking on the occasion, the ministers explained that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to promote sports and games to encourage talented youth. In 1992 CM cup sports and games competitions were held in the state for the first time in the undivided state.

Since then, no CM cup sports and games were conducted in the state till today. After bifurcation of the state, CM cup competitions are being conducted first time in Srikakulam. Minister for Roads and Buildings D Krishna Das was also recognised as national player in volleyball.

``Sports and games are essential for youth to maintain good health and to have recognition in the society. Certificates presented to winners in sports and games will be useful for the players for reservations in government services and to get seats in professional courses,'' the ministers said.

The ministers appealed to students and youth to participate actively in sport and games regularly to maintain good health. YSRCP MLA from Srikakulam D Prasada Rao also spoke at inauguration of the competitions. Later the ministers inaugurated indoor stadium at Srikakulam which was constructed with Rs 2 crore.
