Chittoor: Without proper amenities and adequate employees, ITI in deplorable state

Chittoor: With poor amenities and inadequate faculty members, the Government ITI in Chittoor is in a deplorable state. Out of the earmarked strength of 250 girl students , only four girls are studying in Government Industrial Institute due to lack of minimum facilities and faculty members, says M Ravindra Reddy, Principal .

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, he said that there were ten trades - machinist, fitter, electrical and others - available in the ITI and they are mostly confined for boys. About 500 boys are studying out of 1,000 seats available at the ITI. Machinery, laboratories and other equipment, all worth about Rs 2 crore are available at the ITI. But several machines are kept unused due to lack of strength in certain trades.

Out of 60 employees sanctioned, only 20 are working and among them some are on contract basis. Only one attender is working out of the sanctioned posts of 10. It becomes very difficult to maintain the institution with meagre staff and poor amenities," he said.

As there is no compound wall around the ITI , about 25 acres of its valuable land was encroached . The 100 year-old ITI buildings are in dilapidated condition and there was no development during the past two decades. Recently front portion of the building was white washed with contributions from the students . There is no drinking water facility for the students. He further said that he has submitted a representation to District Collector for constructing a compound wall to protect the vacant land of ITI. But there was no response. I Sesha Reddy, Assistant Principal and others were present.
