Visakhapatnam: Wearing a pair of gloves and a cap, Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava along with his team took part in the beach clean-up drive that commenced at 6:45 am at RK Beach here on Saturday.

Organised by the Waltair Division, the campaign saw a participation of about 200 staff and officers from various wings. They collected about 200 kg of litter comprising plastic covers, glass bottles, leftover soft drink bottles and food wrappers, among several other items strewn all along the path.

The DRM was accompanied by Additional DRM (Infra) Akshay Saxena, branch officers and other staff. The clean-up drive also included a rally on the beach road. Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said there was a need to make a conscious effort to bring down the use of single-use plastic.

"With the railways already considering serious measures towards this direction, efforts should also be made by the stakeholders to work in tandem to make the railways plastic-free. Massive drives will continue in various parts of the Division to encourage people to follow suit," he added.

As part of the 'Swacchta hi Seva,' the Waltair Division has been undertaking several programmes at various locations in the city.
