Visakhapatnam: The Ratan Tata Innovation Hub (RTIH) and a multilevel car parking project are getting ready right at the heart of the city.

With the building titled ‘deck’ nearing completion, the project will be inaugurated by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is scheduled to visit Visakhapatnam on June 10.

The eye-catching deck comprises 11 floors. Of them, four floors have been dedicated to the MLCP, while the rest will be utilised for commercial purposes.

The state government decided to dedicate some of the floors for the IT sector.

In a move towards streamlining vehicular congestion and overcoming traffic bottlenecks, a multi-level car parking (MLCP) along with two-wheeler parking facility was initiated and the work for the project commenced in 2022.

The first-of-its-kind multi-level car parking facility in Andhra Pradesh is stretched up to 1.35 acres. Currently, such facilities are available in Kolkata, Pune, Chennai and New Delhi.

VMRDA initiated the MLCP and it comes with a host of benefits such as optimal utilisation of space, low maintenance and operational cost, low construction cost (owing to the prefabrication), secure and environment-friendly nature, along with saving cost for builders, saving height, depth, etc.,

The deck spaces will also be utilised for commercial purposes. About 800 cars and 700-plus two-wheelers can be accommodated in the facility.

Speaking to The Hans India, VMRDA chairperson MV Pranav Gopal pointed out that IT companies used to close their shutters during the YSRCP’s tenure. “But after the NDA government came to power, industries that disappeared from the state began coming back. It is a very proud moment that the VMRDA building ‘deck’ will house prestigious IT companies next,” he stated.
