The government of Andhra Pradesh is working for the welfare of BC, SC, ST, EBC and minority communities. Recently it was decided to provide financial security to the poor unemployed in the respective categories. The government will select 9,260 poor unemployed people with driving licenses and give them mini trucks with huge subsidy. These vehicles are used to deliver subsidized goods to households. In this context, the government issued directions on September 11 through the Civil Supplies Agency regarding the purchase of vehicles. It has also released funds to this extent.

The cost per vehicle is decided at Rs. 5,81,190 by the Government. Of this, 60%, or Rs 3,48,714, is paid by the government under the subsidy. 30% i.e. Rs.1,74,357 will be provided under bank loan. Beneficiaries are not burdened as only 30% of the total vehicle cost is borrowed from the bank. The loan can be repaid in easy installments. It is sufficient to pay only 10% or Rs.58,119 under the beneficiary's share. The bank is required to repay the loan within six years, which means that the vehicle will be owned by the beneficiary within six years. Officials said this was the first time such a large scale subsidy had been given under any scheme.

The government will implement a door-to-door subsidized rice distribution scheme from next January. So far cardholders have been fetching rice from discount stores. The government will no longer distribute rice and goods door-to-door through volunteers. It was against this backdrop that the trucking distribution program began. First the goods from the zonal level godown points are delivered to the dealer shops by mini trucks. From there the door-to-door program is carried out. The corporation pays Rs.10,000 per month to the beneficiary who does not have a bank loan and other expenses.

The application process for mini trucks begun on Friday. Applications should be taken to the village and ward secretariats and handed over there after completion. Applications will be accepted until the 27th of this month followed by interviews on December 4. The list of beneficiaries will be announced on the 5th.
