Andhra Pradesh women’s badminton team receiving the winning trophy after clinching the 80th South Zone Inter-State Women’s Team Championship in Bengaluru
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Women’s Badminton team emerged champions in the 80th South Zone Inter-State Women’s Team Badminton Championship held in Bengaluru, defeating Tamil Nadu 3-2 in a thrilling final.
The AP senior women’s team entered the final after registering a convincing 3-1 victory over Telangana in the semi-final. In the title clash, T Surya Charishma lost the opening singles 5-15, 14-16 to Aadharsini Sri N Kandheri Navya then levelled the contest by defeating Deeksha SR 15-13, 19-21, 15-3 in the second singles.
AP suffered another setback in the first women’s doubles, with D Sravanthi and D Deepika going down 10-15, 12-15 to Pravanthika and Reshika. However, the AP junior boys’ team also secured a bronze medal in the championship. With the title within reach, K Durga Eesha kept AP’s hopes alive by defeating Sadhana Phenolen 15-8, 16-14 in the third singles. In the decisive second women’s doubles, Kandheri Navya and T Surya Charishma produced a determined performance to beat Pranavi N and Reeva Evangeline M 9-15, 15-13, 15-13, sealing the championship for Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association secretary and Badminton Association of India joint secretary Dr P Ankamma Chowdary congratulated the players, coaches and managers on the title-winning performance.
