Hindupur (Anantapur): The state government as part of its new policy to boost medical and health infrastructure, planned 17 new medical colleges and super-speciality hospitals in all the 13 districts in the state. The government will invest Rs.16,000 crore on improving health and medical infrastructure in the state, according to Deputy Chief Minister and Medical and Health Minister Alla Kalikrishna Srinivas (Alla Nani).

Addressing a press conference after inspecting probable sites for the new medical college here on Monday, Alla Nani said that as per the directions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy he has come to inspect suitable sites for establishing a new medical college cum super-speciality hospital in the backward Hindupur Lok Sabha constituency. The Chief Minister has sanctioned a new medical college and a super speciality hospital at a cost of Rs.400 crore. The fund will also help boost medical infrastructure right from PHC sub-centres to the district head quarters hospital. He said that 500 village clinics will be developed in all the sub-centres jurisdiction to render quality medical treatment to even the under-privileged sections of the society.

The district head-quarters hospital is also being developed into a super-speciality hospital and almost all works are nearing completion.

The minister said that the new medical college sanctioned for Hindupur is part of the 17 new medical colleges planned for the state. A report will be submitted to the chief minister by him soon on the possible sites identified.

Hindupur MP Gorantla Madhav, BC Welfare Minister M. Sankara Narayana, MLC Iqbal Ahmed and MLA's Anantha Venkatarama Reddy and Thippeswamy participated. District Collector Gandham Chandrudu was also present.
