Amaravati: TDP state president K Atchannaidu on Friday made a strong plea to Chief Minister YS JaganMohan Reddy to rescue farmers from heavy crop losses they suffered with the impact of Nivar cyclone in the State.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said that crops in thousands of acres were still under water and over Rs 9,720 crore worth crops were damaged in the heavy rains and floods from August to October.
Stating that the Nivar cyclone caused an irrecoverable blow to the farmers, the TDP leader said that the government should plan for buying the damaged crops by offering remunerative prices. There was a greater need to rescue the farmers who were badly hit by repeated natural calamities in the past few months.
Atchannaidu asserted that the government did not take preventive measures to save the farmers. Though the untimely rains have ravaged the crops, no sufficient steps were taken to extend timely rescue to the farmers. The ruling party's priorities need to be changed in order to avert more damage to the people in times of cyclones and calamities.
The TDP leader deplored that the ordinary people in towns and villages were also suffering because of flood waters entering colonies and houses. The civic authorities should take urgent steps to mitigate the suffering of residents. Enumeration of the damages should be taken up immediately everywhere, he demanded.
