Amaravati: Terming High Court verdict on quashing ordinance removing State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar as a big blow to the ruling YSRCP, the TDP stated that government should learn lessons from the court's judgments and stop crippling independent institutions like the Election Commission and others.
The revoking of the State government's ordinance removing Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar is a big victory for democracy, said Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, in a statement on Friday.
He said Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his government should duly respect the court's order and allow Ramesh Kumar to discharge his duties without further hurdles. The court's order is a big blow to the anti-people and anti-democratic policies of YSRCP, he added.
Former minister KS Jawahar suggested to the YSRCP that it should not drag the issue further by going to the Supreme Court and focus on correcting its mistakes in the best interests of the people. CM Jagan should realise that he was insulting the Constitution and Ambedkar by trying to permanently remove a constitutionally appointed SEC. TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah suggested to the government advisors to advise the Chief Minister to step down following the court's disapproval of his action. He said that the High Court saved democracy in AP and renewed people's faith in the Constitution.
Jana Sena welcomed the High Court judgement on State Election Commissioner. In a statement, party president Pawan Kalyan warned Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy that there was no space for unilateral decisions in a democracy and suggested not to indulge in anti democratic activities.
