Guntur/Vijayawada: International Women's Day was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm in Krishna and Guntur districts on Sunday. Officials of the Police, Revenue, Woman and Child Welfare, Medical and Health and other Departments joyfully participated in the celebrations.
The Police department inaugurated the Disha police stations in Vijayawada and Guntur and the senior police officers have assured that full protection will be given to women and children, particularly the girls.
Many women officials, social activists, representatives of NGOs, artistes and others were felicitated to mark the International Women's Day, which is observed on March 8 across the World.
In Guntur, Director General of Police Gautam Sawang inaugurated the Disha police station and addressed the gathering. He said Disha police stations, Disha app and Disha Act are very useful to women and help the police to check crime against women and nab the culprits. He suggested the women to download the Disha app to get assistance from the police in case of need and use it. He said, so far more than one lakh women have downloaded it.
The DGP has announced that toilets and a waiting room to feed the children be constructed in Disha Police Stations. South Coastal Zone Guntur Range IGP J Prabhakar Rao, Guntur urban SP PHD Rama Krishna, Guntur rural SP Ch Vijaya Rao, police officials were among those participated.
In Vijayawada, Women's day celebrations were held in a grand manner at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Krishna District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz was the chief guest for the event. Speaking on the occasion, collector said the perception of men should be changed towards women. He regretted that though women people's representatives were elected, the powers are enjoyed by their husbands.
He felt this tendency should be changed and women should be given to use their power and enhance their knowledge and administrative skills. He said woman is powerful and pointed out there is no world without woman. He said women do many things at home as home maker and they prove their talent in employment also if they are given opportunity. Joint Collector K Madhavi Latha and others were felicitated to mark the occasion. Children performed cultural programme.
Vijayawada commissioner of police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao inaugurated the Disha police station at the Control Room to mark the Women's Day celebrations. He assured that the women can visit the Disha police station at any time and can seek the help of the police. He explained the importance of Disha app and Disha Act.
In Machilipatnam, Women's day celebrations were held in a grand manner on Sunday. Krishna district superintendent of police M Ravindranath Babu said the district police would give full protection to the women and appealed to the women to visit any police station to get assistance. He participated in the Women's Day celebrations at the district police office.
Speaking on the occasion, the police department conducted Run for Women, Open House programme and arranged medical camp on the occasion. He assured that the police has given full protection to the girls and women. He explained the importance of Disha police station, Disha Act and Disha app. Additional SP Sattibabu and other officials attended the event. The SP also participated in the videoconference conducted by DGP Gautam Sawang.
