Amaravati: 3 BJP MPs complain to Home Minister Amit Shah on AP polls
GVL, TG Venkatesh and C M Ramesh meet the Union Home Minister to bring to his notice many alleged attacks and irregularities in the local bodies' election underway in the state. They tell Shah that BJP-Jana Sena candidates are being attacked and pressurised to withdraw from contest at many places while police act in a partisan manner. The MPs urge him to intervene and advice the State govt to ensure democratic process is followed
Amaravati: Three BJP MPs, G V L Narasimha Rao, T G Venkatesh and C M Ramesh, here on Friday lodged a strong protest against the violence and attacks on the Opposition in AP with the Union home minister Amit Shah.
The three MPs' met the home minister and brought to his notice several alleged attacks on the Opposition leaders in the ongoing elections to the local bodies.
They have also complained about the threats being meted out to the Opposition and the breakdown of law and order in the state. People of AP deserved a better governance, they said.
They urged the home minister to intervene in the ongoing affairs. In a letter to Shah, they said the very elections had been announced in a hurried manner to gain undue political advantage by the ruling party. They said the ruling YSRCP workers were selectively targeting the BJP-Jana Sena nominees at several places and the police was playing a partisan role. At many places either the BJP-Jana Sena candidates had been prevented from filing nominations or in cases where they had filed, there was pressure on them to withdraw their nominations, they pointed to the Union minister. The undemocratic attitude of the ruling party was unprecedented, they said seeking Shah's intervention and advice to the state government to ensure that the democratic process is not vitiated further. Restoration of law and order should be the priority while ensuring that free and fair elections were held too, they said.
